WHAT?!?! I would love to meet the marketing team that thought putting Star Wars “The Clone Wars” characters on skateboards was a good idea…
I swear, every time I see something ridiculous for Happy Meals at McDonald’s, it helps reinforce that opinion I have that Disney was retarded to not re-up their contract… I could care less about the health aspect of fast food. That’s a whole different argument. These are toys, people! Kids want cool toys!
Here is why I am having a problem with these “Out of this world” Skateboards (see what I did there? Yeah…) :
#1 - Star Wars is one of the coolest brands ever. Pairing the brand with something else better be as cool as possible, and frankly, skateboarding has lost its footing in the cool circles. Hopefully it makes a comeback, but for now, it’s on the outside.
#2 – X-Games were a month ago… Translation: A millennium for kids. IF you are to successfully market your product with an extreme sport, such as skateboarding, you do it when it’s popular. You do it just before, during, and maybe just after if needed. Anything past a week or so and you run into the problem of kids getting back into school and not caring about the stuff they did during the summer, such as skateboarding. Hit them when they’re interested and you win. Hit them after the fact, and your product will be on clearance a week later.
Here’s my letter to McDonald’s:
To whom it may concern,
Please stop allowing crappy ideas for your Happy Meals to be created. Kids want cool toys. Not toys that look like they were factory rejects from Japan. Unless the fact that Star Wars was accidentally added to the skateboards, find the person who signed off on the idea and punch them in the face for me. I appreciate it. If you’re going to put out Star Wars toys, put out Star Wars toys. Not sorry excuses for toys.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Nick
